I have made a wall plaque from an old cardboard box lid.

I started by giving it a coat of DecoArt Media Black Gesso. Once dry I painted it with a coat of DecoArt Media White Tinting Base and when that was dry I sanded back areas and the edges to reveal some of the black layer.

I stamped all over with Andy Skinner's crackle stamp from his Toxic set in black Archival then gave a wash with DecoArt Prussian Blue Hue. Lastly, I dry brushed with white gesso to give a lighter and patchy effect similar to a faded old piece of wood.

The flowers were die-cut from wet wipes coloured with DecoArt's Hansa Yellow Light and Diarylide Yellow Media Fluid Acrylics. They were then blasted quickly with my heat gun to shape them.
Seam binding ribbon was coloured with the two yellows and Green Gold Media Fluid Acrylic before being tied in a bow.

The stone effect flourishes were created with white DAS clay and Prima's IOD Large Flourish Moulds. Once dry I gave them a wash of DecoArt's Media Fluid Acrylic in Payne's Grey. I love how it shows all the little cracks in the clay and makes them look like old stonework.

Crafts Galore Encore June 2018

I have made an 8"x 8" card to show you using some hot Summer colours.

I started by colouring two pieces of watercolour card and a strip of seam binding using Distress Oxides and water in Spiced Marmalade, Worn Lipstick and Squeezed Lemonade.

Once dried I printed the dresses from the Dress Up set a few times each and cut them out. I removed some of the details to leave just the dresses.
I used Posca pens to add some extra colour to the dresses.

The sentiment is one of two that are included in the Dress Up set and was printed at the same time as the dresses.

I wrapped the seam binding around the card and matted it onto black cardstock before fixing onto a card blank. I arranged the dresses and stuck them to the card with foam pads.
To finish I added a thin black bow to a seam binding bow and fixed them to the card.

Creative Artiste #38 May 2018

Yay! It's Friday and it's a Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK. I have a buy weekend with family coming to visit.

This month we were let down by our sponsor at the last minute so, we have arranged a GDT spot for May's winner.

I have made a tag using some popular mixed media techniques.

I cut the tag and the smaller pieces from greyboard and gave them a coat of gesso. Once dry I used a wax stick to create a resist so I could make the tag and layers look like weathered wood. I then painted all the pieces with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Paynes Grey, Quinacridone Gold and Prussian Blue Hue. I finished with a top coat of Titan Buff and a light wash of Quin Gold.

I used various stamps over the tag and layers and then applied texture paste through a tattered harlequin stencil on the tag only. I made washes of Prussian Blue and Quin Gold Media Fluid acrylics to colour the texture paste once dry.

I used an old butterfly stamp on watercolour card and coloured it with the left over washes before fussy cutting it out. I layered everything up with Prima Soft Matt Gel.

I made an 8"x 8" birthday card for a family member.

I matted and layered another beautiful paper from the First Edition Wild Flower paper pad with purple pearlescent card. I made a panel for the image with the purple card to create a border with the paper.

I chose the Marigolds & Morpho uncoloured set to work with. The images come in Jpeg and PNG format which enabled me to create this design in my graphics programme  plus print extra butterflies in different sizes. I used Copics to colour the flowers and butterflies to match the paper. The butterflies have been decoupaged to create depth.

I finished the card with a sentiment banner and a single purple pearl.

Creative Artiste #37 April 2018

I hope you all have a lovely crafty weekend planned. I shall be heading to Coventry for the Texture and Color retreat organised by Art Workshops and featuring Kassa Hayselden and Anna Dabrowska (Finnabair). I'm anticipating much fun and messy fingers. Hopefully I'll learn some new tricks too.

I have upcycled a little box.

I started by eating the delicious cheese that came in the box! Once empty, I gave the box top and base a couple of coats of white gesso. I then used texture paste through a honeycomb stencil on both the top and base of the box.

Next, I added some Artstones, gems and cheesecloth to the box top with a soft gel medium along with some paper roses, moss and metal embellishments.
Once that was all dry I gave everything a thick coat of white gesso.

Then I watered down a pink, an orange and a yellow acrylic paint and kept applying them with brushes. I added more water as necessary and dried in between coats, until I was happy with the blends and coverage.

Finally I dry brushed with white gesso to highlight some areas.
